Tropical Marine Ecology Course
Stony Brook University
With a semester left at Emory, I realized that my experiences with Ecology and Biology focused in the Piedmont of Georgia and the Barrier Islands. I was a recently certified Open Water Scuba Diver and with a newly found excitement for diving, I wanted to explore Tropical Marine Ecology. I joined a class with Stony Brook University to study the coral reefs in Discovery Bay, Jamaica. After minutes of arriving at the University of the West Indies Marine Lab, we realized that we were in our own living laboratory. From the red mangroves at edge of the water to the highly colonized fringe reef crest, the clear blue water welcomed us.
